Michelle Margiotta, a singer-songwriter from Ronkonkoma, New York, won this year's Kingdom Bound Talent Search and will perform at this summer's Kingdom Bound Christian music festival in Upstate New York on Sunday, August 2nd, according to Donna Russo, Executive Director of Kingdom Bound Ministries. Margiotta will perform songs from her CD, "State of Heart," which is available through her website.
This year, thanks to the power of Facebook and Twitter, online social-networking sites, 49 entries came in from all over the world. Kingdom Bound, known for its popular, annual Christian music festival at Darien Lake Theme Park, between Buffalo and Rochester, has run a talent search for years, but recently the search has gone from "send us your tapes/CDs" to "post your MP3 online" for judging. Entries came in from a wide variety of artists who cover musical styles from pop to rock, R&B to hip-hop, and country to blues. Most entries came from singers or bands in New York and Ontario, while Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, Tennessee, Texas, California, and even Australia were represented.
Voting took place online and Margiotta's song, "Created For Worship," helped her win the competition. Songs were judged both online and by industry experts. Besides winning a performance slot at Kingdom Bound, Margiotta will also take part in a national competition of fellow regional festival talent search winners with the potential to win a development deal from Word Label Group, which includes Fervent Records, Myrrh Records and Word Records.
This year's Kingdom Bound talent search featured many extraordinarily talented singers and bands. Devon Golda, a singer from Grand Island, New York, came in second place, while Soul Shaker, a band from Conneaut, Ohio, took third. They will receive complimentary tickets to the festival. Meanwhile, two Western New York bands rounded out the top 5: Imago Dei, from Depew, and Ps100, from Medina.
Kingdom Bound Ministries' mission is to present “the Gospel through the Arts” at various concerts and events throughout the year in Upstate New York and Southern Ontario. This August 2-5, Kingdom Bound Christian music festival takes place at Darien Lake Theme Park in Darien Center, New York, attracting upwards of 55,000 attenders from all over the United States and Canada. Campsites and other on-site accommodations are still available for the event. The festival, now in its 23rd year, features over 50 concerts and seminars over a four-day period, with headliners like Casting Crowns, Israel Houghton and Newsboys.
